The aim of the Artists Alliance mentoring programme is to provide a valuable opportunity for recent graduates to focus on their career with the help of an experienced mentor. Each pairing meets for 20 hours over the course of a year, where the mentor provides advice and guidance based on their experience in the sector.
There is a limited number of mentee/mentor pairings each year, with Artists Alliance looking to appropriately match each mentee with a mentor that fits with what they wish to achieve.
Feedback from previous years show that some of the significant benefits include:
- Helping to develop the skills needed for effective networking i.e. approaching public institutions and dealers
- Assisting with the completion of applications for exhibition involvement
- Giving an open dialogue and practical direction for discussing ideas
- Giving mentees the confidence to pursue a career in the visual arts once they have left the supportive structure of the art school environment
There are a vast number of applications each year from which the mentees best suited from the programme are chosen. In order to qualify as a mentee you must have graduated with an appropriate arts qualification within the five years prior to the call out.
Keep an eye out for future mentoring programmes on our Opportunities page or if you have any questions don’t hesitate to call the office.
