Floor talk by Ortega Sunday August 20 at 3pm
In a rare opportunity, Northart will present the work of two of Cuba’s foremost emerging visual artists. Osmeivy Ortega is visiting New Zealand on the invitation of Otahuhu College, where he will be Artist in Residence for the next five weeks while he assists students there to develop a large-scale woodcut mural commissioned by Auckland International Airport. His striking woodcut prints will hang alongside digitally produced posters from another prominent Cuban artist, caricaturist Yaimel Lopez. Both explores ideas of social and political injustice in their work. Ortega will be at the show’s opening, and will also give a floor talk on the last Sunday of the exhibition.
