Oliver Perkins, current McCahon House artist-in-residence, produces works that are suggestive reminders of painting’s adherence to quotidian objects, citing art histories, material agency and cognitive thought as the initiating factors of his studio practice. Here, Perkins looks at the potential of unpacking a singular ‘painting type’, finding the resonating concerns of architecture, construction methodologies and colour as attributes that support a looser, more intuitive attempt to articulate the desire of production.
