Curator’s floor talk 2pm Saturday 17 February
Northart – Kaipataki Community’s Gallery, Auckland
A stunning retrospective of artworks from the estate of nationally acclaimed textile artist Malcolm Harrison reveals not only his affinity for and achievements with fabric, but also his extraordinary ability to work across a wide variety of other media. First presented at Waiheke Community Art Gallery last year to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Malcolm’s death on the island in 2007, Northart’s larger gallery spaces have allowed curator Cerys Dallaway Davidson to include a more extensive range of his works.
On display will be small and large quilts (some measuring up to 4 metres in width), wool tapestries and linen embroideries, small sculptural pieces and assemblages, as well as drawings and working drawings, sketches, illustrations, poetry and children’s books. In a free event, Cerys will present a floor talk on the works in the show on Saturday 17 February at 2pm
