Wednesday December 6 to Saturday December 23, 2017
Bartley + Company Art, Wellington
The exhibition takes its title from Elliot Collins’ striking text painting: It’s O.K. It was all so beautiful. Text also appears in Cat Auburn’s fun pendants riffing off her background in pony club events. And of course we couldn’t have text without Mary-Louise Browne’s beautifully crafted words on leather. All these three artists bring our imaginations into play as we create our own imagery from their words.
As you enter the gallery, one of Marie Le Lievre’s newest paintings stands quietly, strongly and seductively with its deep and lustrous layers pulling us into its world. The Roger Mortimer, again in a painting showing here for the first time, challenges us to think about what is going on and why in his strange medieval world set on the approaches to Oamaru harbour. There’s also work by Lonnie Hutchinson, Helen Calder, Rebecca Hasselman, Brett Graham and Anne Noble.
