First Thursdays Chch | Welcome

Thursday December 7, 5pm-9pm
Sydenham, Christchurch

Nau mai haere mai! First Thursdays Christchurch welcomes you to Sydenham for an evening celebrating art, creativity and our diverse communities. This free, all ages event combines exhibitions, live music, poetry, night markets, food trucks and more. There’s something for everyone!

First Thursdays Chch is a not for profit organisation that aims to celebrate and invigorate Sydenham by showcasing contemporary artists and supporting local businesses and communities.

Art galleries and shops at The Colombo and throughout Sydenham will be open late, along with pop up exhibitions and installations featuring work by local and national artists. Get your groove on at Pennylane Records, with a free gig by Kiwi rock legend, singer/songwriter (Why Does Love do this to Me),  Jordan Luck! Auckland artist Margaret Lewis will be creating a new work for Sydenham – enlivening ubiquitous chain link fences and more. We’re excited to be hosting the launch of Garland Magazine at Dilana, as well as several group exhibitions; deck your walls with new works on paper from Kaleidoscope World, take home some beer in a custom art vessel from The Beer Library or find a unique piece at Warp & Weft.

The First Thursdays Night Market brings forth an array of locally made crafts and curios, accompanied by live music and your favourite foodies at The Colombo. Whether you’re an arts advocate or have never set foot in a gallery, First Thursdays is a one night only opportunity to experience a variety of art, to celebrate Christchurch’s talent and explore Sydenham’s hidden gems.

Events will be taking place in multiple locations around Sydenham – from The Colombo to Dilana Rugs, Pennylane Records, Pablo 383 and more. Maps available online and in Sydenham in the lead up to the event.

This event is proudly supported and made possible by  Christchurch City Council, Pablo at 383 Colombo St, The Colombo, BNS Design & Print and Ara Institute of Canterbury.
