Bevan Smith | Saving Our Species: New Zealand Birds

Opening Saturday December 2, 2.00-3.30pm
Exhibition runs from Saturday December 2 to Wednesday December 20, 2017
Back Gallery, Depot Artspace, Auckland

Saving Our Species: New Zealand Birds is emerging artist Bevan Smith’s singular effort to provide a visual education on a serious conservation issue.

Smith’s articulate graphite pencil drawings expertly capture the desperate situation of New Zealand native birds and shine a spotlight on New Zealand’s less iconic native birds facing the threat of extinction, such as the Black Robin and the New Zealand Dotterel.

Saving Our Species will showcase different sized works to demonstrate the diversity of New Zealand birds, accompanied by detailed descriptions of each species and the subsequent threat to its habitat and/or existence. This exhibition is kindly supported by Forest and Bird.
