Artists Alliance and Te Tuhi are thrilled to have Balamohan Shingade presenting our November Art Writing session: Reading for Writing
Reading for Writing
It’s often said that all good writers were readers first. Writing on art is no exception. With practical examples and useful techniques, this session will explore how to read in order to write. Not only does reading improve vocabulary and fill us with renewed inspiration, but it can also help put us in touch with unfamiliar ideas and use of language. Teachers and writing mentors may come and go, but to develop the skill of reading in order to write will make literature your own guide.
Balamohan Shingade is a writer and curator currently employed as the Assistant Director of ST PAUL St Gallery at Auckland University of Technology. He is a Masters graduate of Elam School of Fine Arts where he was also employed as a Professional Teaching Fellow in the Critical Studies programme (2012–15). Most recently, during the redevelopment of Uxbridge Arts and Culture, he was the inaugural Manager/Curator of Malcolm Smith Gallery, a public gallery for the eastern suburbs Auckland (2015-16).
Artists Alliance and Te Tuhi are delighted to present in partnership this series of art writing workshops. Each month from July through December we will host a different writer who will share their insight and expertise. Writers involved in this programme include, Anna Miles, Jon Bywater, Anthony Byrt, Balamohan Shingade, Elle Louis August and Lana Lopesi.
Thank you to Time Out Bookstore for hosting these events.
